On June 15th family and friends gathered in Malibu to celebrate the 80th birthday of Felicia Oguntomilade. Five of her six children were there to celebrate, along with all but three of her grandchildren and a host of friends.  One of the attendees has known Felicia for more than 60 years and spoke of their meeting and shared times. There was a visual presentation of her life with photos of graduations, marriages, travels and more. Lots of music and dancing concluded the afternoon, which began with a joyful service of thanksgiving for her life, led by her youngest son, an evangelical minister (and dentist) currently in Maryland. Other children came from England and all spoke of their loving mother and grandmother in personal and very endearing ways. Those of us who know her from worship and bible study saw many other sides presented, but always the shining light of a humble servant of God shown through.

Many of the guests wore traditional Nigerian clothing which includes spectacular hats for the women (called "jollies".) Felicia's entire family was dressed in same-color tailored clothes and daughters and daughter-in-law wore white jollies. Felicia wore a jolly made of the same color as the family's clothing but her dress was extremely elegant and festive with a beautiful shoulder wrap.
